Late Summer Fun in Charlottesville

FIVE THINGS YOU MUST DO BEFORE SUMMER ENDS!

Fall is quickly approaching, but there’s still time left to enjoy the long days of summer. Don’t let the season slip away before completing these five Charlottesville activities. We’ve got family fun, date nights, and solo time covered…just five more reasons we, “Live Where We Love.”

1 – Float the James River

Pack the kids, tubes, and sunblock and head to the James River for an afternoon float. Or better yet, let the crew at the James River Reeling & Rafting provide your family with tubes and a shuttle. Depending on the water level, the 4-mile float will take anywhere from two-to-four hours.

2 – Sunset Cocktails at the Villa Crawford Bar at Keswick Hall

Sip a signature cocktail as you watch the sun fade behind the rolling hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Villa Crawford Bar is located at Keswick Hall, the 600-acre estate situated just south of Charlottesville, in Keswick, the heart of Virginia’s wine country. Lounge on the terrace, order nibbles from the bar menu, and whisper sweet nothings into your date’s ear.

3 – Tom Tom Founders Fest

The popular week-long music and art festival that takes place in the spring has been so popular, that they’ve added a fall block party! The Tom Tom Founders Fest – Fall Block Party will take place at the IX Art Park, Sept 25 – 26, 2015. We know this is technically a “fall” block party – but hopefully the weather will still be so nice, that it will feel like summer! The two-day festival will be filled with bands, art, food trucks, crafts, acrobatics, and a beer garden.  FREE fun for the whole family!

4 – Solo Sunrise Jog at the Saunders-Monticello Trail

Awake before dawn, lace up your running shoes, and head to the Saunders-Monticello trail. Park in the lower trailhead parking lot to begin the 4-mile round trip journey. The path winds through a gorgeous canopy of trees, gently climbing up Carter Mountain, leading to Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello ticket office. Grab a quick drink of water at the water fountains, then head back down, being sure to stop off at the duck pond on your descent. Rug, jog, or stroll through the natural beauty and enjoy a bit of unplugged solo quiet time.

5 – Catch the last Friday After 5

The popular summertime concert series, Fridays After Five, comes to a close on Friday, September 11, 2015. The free concert draws out thousands of locals—families, friends, and co-workers who come directly from work to get the weekend started right! The Skip Castro Band will have the honor of sending us out in style.
