Five Things You Must Do Before Summer Ends!

Fall is quickly approaching, but there’s still time left to enjoy the long days of summer. Don’t let the season slip away before completing these five New River Valley activities. We’ve got family fun, date nights, and solo time covered…just five more reasons we, “Live Where We Love.”

1 – Dinner Date at The Palisades Restaurant

Take a drive out of town and up into the hills to Eggleston, Virginia, to the famed Palisades Restaurant. Enjoy the fresh, local offerings of the summer menu. Be sure to save room for the homemade peaches & cream—fresh peaches, sweet milk risotto, and local Bee Berry Farm compote.

2 – Shop the Blacksburg Vintage and Antique Market

Take a walk back in time and browse the selection of groovy apparel and vintage decor at the Blacksburg Vintage and Antique Market. Held on the second Sunday of the month, April through November, from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m, at the Market Square Park in downtown Blacksburg. Live music and sweet treats will keep the kiddos entertained as you shop.

3 – Spend an Evening with The Avett Brothers

The Avett Brothers, an American folk rock group from Concord, North Carolina, combine bluegrass, country, punk, pop melodies, folk, and rock. Now’s your chance to see this rising band, up close and personal, at Virginia Tech’s Burruss Auditorium on Friday, September 11, 2015. Purchase tickets here.

4 – Solo Hike to The Cascades

When you’re ready to tune out for bit and enjoy some peace and quiet, plan a solo hike. Arise with the sun and head out to the Cascades Recreational Area in Giles County. Park at the upper end of the parking lot to find the trailhead for the four-mile round trip trail, the Cascades National Scenic Trail. Take the lower trail as it follows Big Stoney Creek, past beautiful cascades and pools. The sometimes steep and rough path winds through the narrow gorge between high cliff walls, eventually opening up as the waterfalls come into view.

 

5 – Attend the First Hokie Game

It’s time! Virginia Tech football season is upon us! Head to Campus Emporium to get your Hokie gear in order, get your tailgate party planned, and great ready to attend the first game of the season on Monday, September 7, 2015.
