Spring Festivals – Asheville

Spring has finally sprung!

Along with the flowers, festivals are beginning to pop up in our region. Take a gander at some of the seasonal fun that Asheville has to offer:

Asheville’s Beer City Festival & Week

May 28th, 2016, 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Location: Roger McGuire Green at Pack Square Park

Festivals

Settle into the spring weather with a beer tasting! Come taste beers from 32 breweries. Hosted by the Asheville Brewers Alliance (ABA), the Beer City Festival is the annual kickoff to the annual Asheville Beer Week, and a portion of the proceeds will go to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Western North Carolina. Your $45 ticket comes with tastings of local beers and hard ciders, along with a tasting mug. While you sip, enjoy live music from regional bands and food from local venders. Bring along chairs and blankets to create a full picnic experience. The Asheville Brewers Alliance will provide free water stations and cooling areas.

Lake Lure Arts Festival

May 28th – May 30th, 2016

Location: Across from The Beach at Lake Lure, 2771 Memorial Highway, Lake Lure, NC.

Bask in the creativity of over 60 local artisans from the Asheville region as you browse their handmade creations at the Lake Lure Arts Festival. An added bonus, entry is free.

Concerts of the Creek

Every Friday: 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Location: The Bridge Park gazebo beside Scott Creek in downtown Sylva, NC.

Every Friday evening from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day Weekend, the Bridge Park gazebo beside Scott Creek in downtown Sylva, NC becomes a concert venue. This free live music series offers family-friendly fun for your Friday evenings. With food and drink from local shops and breweries in walking distance, bring along some chairs and blankets to to picnic while you enjoy the performance.

Asheville Orchid Festival

April 14th – 17th, 2016

Location: North Carolina Arboretum, Asheville, NC

Get into the spring bloom and surround yourself with beautiful flowers. The Asheville Orchid Festival is the national spring meeting of the American Orchid Society. Every year, experts in the field of orchids come to judge and present awards to magnificent orchids. Along with catching a glimpse at the prize winners, enjoy expert presentations, repotting clinics, guided tours, and lectures. Should you grow inspired by the exhibits, orchids will be for sale. The North Carolina Arboretum is an excellent take in and of itself; with 65 acres of cultivated gardens and 10 miles of hiking and biking trails, there is plenty to keep you busy! Admission is $5 for adults, and children 12 and under get in for free.

Mountain Sports Festival

May 28th – 29th, 2016

Location: Carrier Park, Asheville, NC

Calling all mountain sports enthusiasts! Starts training for Asheville’s Mountain Sports Festival! Come rain or shine, over 15,000 athletes of all levels will take part in a multitude of competitive events, races, entertainment, demos, and exhibitions. The clinics and demos are free, and there will be complimentary yoga offered by OM Asheville. Here are some highlights:

Prefer to observe, rather than to participate? Beer from local breweries will be available, along with great live music and food and beverages from local vendors.

Carolina Mountain Cheese Fest

April 24th, 2016, 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Location: Highland Brewery, Asheville, NC

Doesn’t the name say it all?! Cheese lovers: mark your calendars for the Carolina Mountain Cheese Fest. Come to sample and purchase local artisanal cheeses, to speak with cheesemakers, and to catch a close-up glimpse of the dairy animals that make such cheese possible. Stay for panel discussions, workshops, and the opportunity to meet with producers of other related products, such as bread, crackers, meats, pickles, and jams. Hands-on activities for children of all ages will also be offered. Be sure to grab your advance $12 tickets before this event is sold out!
