NAR 2013 San Francisco Wrap Up

Nest agent and CAAR President-Elect John Ince attended the 2013 NAR conference last week in San Francisco. In reflecting on the trip, John shared these thoughts with us:

Quite a trip, all the way out to the sunshine state, 20,000 Realtors invaded the San Francisco financial district filling up every hotel and restaurant for four days straight. I was there as CAAR President Elect and soaked up anecdotes of 2013 leadership from leaders throughout the country with associations as urban as San Diego and as rural as Shoshoni in central Wyoming.

We all face similar issues of an improving market and a changing landscape, associations working to provide value to independent minded brokers and salespeople and third party data sites trying to undermine valid Realtor data with unvetted information scraped from any web site they can access. There is a concerted effort by our lobbyists from the Realtor Party to influence property rights legislation and preserve the 30 year mortgage and the mortgage interest rate deduction.

The NAR economist Lawrence Yun predicts another year of recovery and slowly rising interest rates. Inventory remains low nationwide and the areas hardest hit during the recession are now experiencing the most dramatic recovery. It’s remarkable to be among these industry leaders for four days and an opportunity ripe for learning. San Francisco was glorious and we did have some fun too with a night out in Chinatown and a moving keynote speech from Hillary Rodham Clinton. It was an exciting trip and chock full of great education and insight but let me tell you…there’s no place like home.
