Seller's Scoop

  • View: It is hard to choose a favorite, but I dearly love having my morning coffee watching the songbirds, woodpeckers and chipmunks start their day on the stone wall outside the living room windows.
  • Room: We love spending time in the greenhouse during the wintertime, it's an incredible gift to be outdoors with snow on the ground and and yet it feels like summer in the greenhouse. On a cold sunny day, it can be 20 degrees outside and stay around 80 inside!
  • Tree: The wooded areas of the property are a mixed hardwood ecosystem with poplar, locust, cherry, maple, walnut and dogwoods. We have also planted a number of mulberry trees, a crepe myrtle, and some evergreens and redbuds.
  • Walk: There are many hikes in our cove, directly accessible by foot. My 3.5 mile daily hike is to turn left out our gate and head up the mountain, following Sugar Creek, and head into the John Denver Preserve, home to lots of large trees & rare plants.
  • Hike: Serious hikers will love hiking or running directly from home up to the Pinnacle, a rocky bald with 360 degree views of 3 counties! Perfect for horses too. Our road with it's gentle hills and low traffic is loved by cyclists and walkers of all abilities.
  • Breakfast: We love heading into the artsy little river town of Marshall for breakfast. The Sweet Monkey has outdoor tables and everything is made from scratch. Their local eggs and sausage are my favorites. Zuma is the best place for coffee!
  • Lunch: The closest place to grab a bite for lunch is Grateful Roots deli. They serve paninis and salads and grow some of the ingredients on their farm right down the road. They are also open sometimes for breakfast and have staple groceries, wine, beer & cider.
  • Dinner: For dinner out we like to head into Asheville, which has many fantastic local eateries. Our favorites are the Green Sage Cafe and Homegrown!
  • Pub/Winery: Ginger's Revenge has a wonderful outdoor space along the French Broad River and if you go the "back way" into Asheville you will pass right by it. They brew their ginger beers, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic onsite using locally grown organic ginger!
  • Living Here Has Been: We have loved the whole process of building our farm and home and spending so much time on this land doing it! Our Sandymush community is quite social and we have lots of fun events at our community center. We enjoy hosting potlucks and spending time around our fire pit and on hikes with neighbors and friends. Our home integrates the outdoors into the living space, and we absolutely love that about it, along with how easy it is to heat, cool and maintain. Having such a spacious and lovely kitchen with plenty of counter space makes cooking even more pleasurable. Soaking in our clawfoot tub has been good for our bones after long days doing farm work. At night our sky is filled with stars and the mountain side sparkles with fireflies. We adore hearing the sounds of the creek, the spring peepers, crickets and birdsongs.
