4th Annual BRAS FOR A CAUSE

The Blue Ridge Chapter of the Women’s Council of Realtors hosts their annual fall fundraiser.

We all understand the importance of philanthropic efforts. There are so many causes and organizations, that it can be hard to choose where to direct your focus. One worthy Charlottesville area based charity is Flourish, a positive image boutique located in the Emily Couric Clinical Cancer Center at the University of Virginia. Their mission is to help those fighting cancer look and feel their best. The specialty shop is designed to provide reassurance and compassion in a comfortable and supportive environment. The beautifully decorated boutique does more than provide clothing, but plays an important role in the healing process. Fashionable and functional items like wigs, turbans, prostheses and mastectomy bras are available. The aim is to help patients feel vibrant, confident and empowered to face the challenges of cancer. Private fitting rooms, a certified mastectomy fitter, and dedicated volunteers helping to guide patients to find items to fit their specific needs are all part of the Flourish experience.

For the last four years, the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Women’s Council of Realtors® (WCR) has lent support to the Flourish boutique through their BRAS FOR A CAUSE Fundraiser. The goals of the WCR aligns with those of Flourish, to empower women and men to lead positive and dynamic lives. Each year the WCR hosts a fundraiser for their organization, with a portion of the proceeds going towards a chosen charity. Flourish and the BRAS FOR A CAUSE event has been the chosen charity since 2010. The event has become a highly anticipated, fun and entertaining event.

Twelve local businesses each create a bra to be worn by a male representative from their organization. The bras are handmade, outlandish creations that are worn by the men down the runway, in hopes of garnering the highest bid. Models included John Ince, President of the Charlottesville Area Association of Realtors® (CAAR), Joel Gueli of CloSure Title and Settlement and Eddie Giles of Professional Movers, Inc.

Silent auction items were donated from local business, along with appetizers, desserts, music and flowers for the evening. The event has become a time when various local businesses and community members join forces to make an impact on members of our community. The 2014 BRAS FOR A CAUSE was the most successful year thus far. We applaud the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Women’s Council of Realtors, and our very own Arleen Yobs and John Ince for their ongoing support of our region.

Spread the love
