Before & After: Baby Nursery

Remodeling a room in your home for a baby nursery may be one of the most exciting and important projects you’ll undertake as a homeowner.

Here, a beige and bland guest room becomes a bright and cheerful nursery, fit for a petite princess. Enlisting the help of local Charlottesville, Virginia, experts, we were able to transform this space in less than a month.

THE PROCESS:

Soft pink, warm gray, crisp white, and gold accents form the color palette.

The intricate molding details and gold hardware on the crib and matching changing dresser feel elegant and classic. A bold floral wallpaper adds dimension to the space.

The expectant parents wanted something classic, feminine, and sweet. We established a color palette of soft pink, warm gray, crisp white, and gold accents. To add a bit of dimension and whimsy, we chose a bold floral wallpaper for one accent wall. Michael Riley of Riley Paint & Wallpaper first applied a wallpaper-specific primer before hanging the paper. Once the wallpaper was installed, we enlisted Megan Kauffmann of Feathered Nest to aid in color consultation. Kauffmann chose the warm pink hue Koral Kicks by Sherwin Williams.

A vintage frame, painted gold, holds of the mother’s favorite literary quotes from The Adventures of Winnie the Pooh by A.A. Milne.

Nest-Nursery-Glider

To maximize the space we centered the crib below one window and, directly across, we created a reading nook with a library wall and plush glider.

Treasured books line the shelves of the library, easily accessed from the glider below.

The bench from Christopher Knight offers additional seating, white wicker baskets below store fluffy friends and toys. The mother-to-be wanted to choose furniture that would grow with her daughter, so we chose the Ave Regency crib from Pottery Barn Kids, that converts from a crib to a toddler bed.

Nest-Nursery-Romans

Michelle Hooper of U-Fab created custom shades – white linen faux romans with cotton lining. And personal touches are peppered throughout, such as these delicate dresses and a rocking chair from the mother’s childhood.
