Design inspiration can be found anywhere—from restaurants to hotels, design boutiques to the corner coffee shop. We visit three establishments with three different styles. Revel in the beauty of each of space, find an element you love, and replicate that in your own home!
BREWERY BHAVANA
It’s a dim sum restaurant, it’s a brewery, it’s a bookstore, it’s a flower shop…in a word, it’s magical. We fell head-over-heels with the recently opened Brewery Bhavana in downtown Raleigh, NC.
The mammoth space is loosely divided by billowing white draperies. One area is dedicated to the stunning bar with 40-taps, a marble backsplash, and marble bar-top, complete with a waterfall edge.
Dining tables fill another area, and a massive sculptural wooden light fixture creates another special private dining zone. Natural light streams in through the skylights.
Modern light orbs hang from the ceiling in rows that span the entirety of the building. Large fig trees cast delicate shadows.
Bookshelves nearly reach the ceiling, and long, family-style tables are found at the center of it all. Every detail has been thoughtfully and meticulously curated.
Draw inspiration for your own home from this bright and welcoming space—the waterfall edge of the bar-top is a dramatic trend we’re loving in kitchens, and the mod light fixtures would be chic hung above a bathroom vanity. What other elements could you envision in your home?
DWELLINGS
When we need a design refresh, we head directly to Dwellings in the Biltmore Village in Asheville, NC.
The 10,000 sq ft showroom boasts an impressive mix of local and worldly goods. We love the sumptuous fabrics, rich textures, and rustic-meets-modern aesthetic.
There’s an array of North Carolina-made furniture, including beds, sofas, sectionals, accent chairs, and ottomans. For unique global finds, owner Chris McMillian travels yearly to India to import one-of-a-kind art, rugs, and accessories.
Established in 2003, the ever-changing selection is merchandised into vignettes, allowing you to replicate an overall look in your own home. Whether you’re ready to re-design your entire home, one room, or just one fresh accessory, inspiration abounds at this Asheville staple. Feeling a bit overwhelmed? Full design services are available.
INSIDER’S TIP: If the 10,000 sq ft manicured and merchandised space isn’t enough for you, there’s also a 12,000 sq ft warehouse that’s more of a treasure hunt experience
JUNCTION
The eagerly anticipated and long-awaited opening of Junction restaurant in the Belmont neighborhood of Charlottesville, VA, was worth the wait.
The historic building has been restored to its former glory by restaurateur Adam Frazier. “The building started to feel like a turn-of-the-century saloon, thus the idea of doing a modern take on the old west saloon was born,” explains Frazier.
Beautiful wood and exposed brick are at the forefront of the two-story venue. Bright white ceiling tins offer a counter balance to the warm tones.
Ornate artistic skulls are displayed along with an original large-scale Pepsi-Cola painted advertisement on the second-floor dining room. Try adding a touch of this southwestern rugged beauty to your home—think natural woods, aged brick, and western-inspired artwork.
We’re loving the light fixtures above the bar, created using copper pipe and exposed Edison bulbs! #SOnesty
