Local Holiday Gift-Giving Guide

Nester Nory’s Gift Picks from Wilmington, NC

By Nory Simoneaux

Two things about me: I love to shop local…but I also tend to shop late. With these two things in mind, I am sitting down to plan my holiday gift giving and in turn, I’m creating a comprehensive local-to-Wilmington gift-giving guide!

The Gift of Art:

Wilmington is a beautiful city full of artistic inspiration, and I love turning that into a gift. Re-Eco Design has a little something for everyone and their art selection is amazing. They highlight favorite Wilmington hangs and landmarks. Want something truly unique? They also have custom furniture pieces so your art is not limited to the walls!

The Gift of Beer:

How can you go wrong with the gift of beer? Seriously. It is hard to choose a favorite brewery or even type of beer and I think one local beer shop has taken that idea and really made it so you don’t have to. Wilmington Brewing Company offers 16 oz. take away cans called “crowlers” that they pour and seal up for you while you wait. It is an amazing opportunity to get a few different brews for that person who just doesn’t have a favorite…yet. Oh, and they look super cute to boot.

The Gift of Music:

Gravity Records has been a staple in the Wilmington music scene for as long as most can remember. Go in and find your favorites to share as a gift, or better yet…ask someone there what they are listening to. It’s a cool way to find new music for your personal selection while also marking one more gift off your list!

The Gift for Man’s Best Friend:

What’s better than a gift for your friend? A gift for your best friend! Do not forget your #1 over the holidays. I love to swing by Aunt Kerry’s for a special treat or toy for our pups during the craziness that is the holiday season. Their staff is super knowledgeable and can help you think of the perfect gift for your furry friends or help you get a gift together for the animal lover in your life!

The Gift of Experience:

Personally, I love to give a gift that keeps on giving and will never collect dust on a shelf. My absolute favorite membership to gift is for the North Carolina Aquarium Society. This pass gets you in at all 4 North Carolina aquariums and is sure to help create amazing memories and fun filled days.

The Gift of Food:

When all else fails, go with a gift certificate to your favorite local restaurant. With so many to choose from you can find something for everyone and hopefully introduce a new local hang that your gift receiver will appreciate for years to come! I like to buy gift certificates from The Basics downtown in The Cotton Exchange. Each certificate has artwork from the owner and chef, Mary Long. They are cute and feel special, and are also a sure way to make the receiver feel special when they sit down for an amazing southern meal with a twist!

The holiday’s are a great time of year to show the people in your life you care, it is also the perfect time to show our local businesses that we appreciate what they do! I hope this gift giving guide helps to inspire your gift giving to take on a local flare. Enjoy and happy holidays!
