Local Love – Part 2

We love supporting our neighborhood businesses and getting to know the awesome people behind them! Last week, we visited six local treasures from around our Nest Realty locations…this week we visit six more!

SUNSET SIPPING

Drinks as beautiful as the sun slowly setting behind them…that’s what you’ll find at The Montford Rooftop Bar in downtown Asheville, NC. The exquisitely crafted cocktails made from locally sourced ingredients pair with endless views of the Appalachian mountains and lovely small bites. Don’t miss the blue crab fritters and the Joyce Farm chicken wings.

SUNNY STROLL

There’s nothing better than a leisurely Saturday morning stroll through the Fredericksburg Farmers Market in Hurkamp Park in Fredericksburg, VA. This chance to buy fresh and local dates back earlier than the city’s founding in 1728!

BEE NATURAL

Did you know that Burt’s Bees was named after a real life Burt? Burt Shavitz was the wild-bearded and free-spirited co-founder of Burt’s Bees, who believed in living simply and harmoniously with the natural world. So simply in fact that he lived much of his life in a 300-square-foot cabin in Maine with no running water or electricity. After his passing in 2015, the cabin was relocated from Maine to the Burt’s Bees headquarters in Durham, NC. The cabin serves as a reminder to live simply, responsibly, and naturally.

WEIRD SCIENCE

Dinosaurs, fossils, and gemstones, oh my! The recently reopened Asheville Museum of Science, better known as AMOS, is now situated in the heart of downtown Asheville, NC. The re-branded museum explores the science of western North Carolina. Exhibits detail the connections between astronomy, geology, weather, climate, ecology, and paleontology to form the beautiful North Carolina landscape.

RECYCLED STYLE

Home to more than 50 vendors, the Stuarts Draft Antique Mall has a terrific balance of antiques and fine used furniture, spanning decades. The shop has been a Shenandoah Valley, VA staple for 24 years, and is family owned by Harry and Betty Mitchell, and their daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Neal Wampler.

CLASSIC CINEMA

Now in its 90th year, The Byrd Theatre is a local treasure. Both a state and national historic landmark, the Richmond, VA, theater is stunning—complete with marbled walls, gold leaf arches, painted murals, and an 18-foot crystal chandelier. This 1,300-seat theater has been showing movies since opening night on Christmas Eve, 1928, when patrons paid just $0.50 to enjoy the evening screening of Waterfront, a silent film with the sound added from a record.
