Local Love Summer 2019 – Part 3

Local Love

We love supporting neighborhood businesses and getting to know the awesome people behind them! This week, we’re sharing six more local treasures from around our Nest Realty locations:

Historic Haunts

Over 30 shops and restaurants reside in The Cotton Exchange, a collection of storefronts overlooking the Cape Fear River in Wilmington, North Carolina. The exchange is comprised of eight graciously restored historic buildings that are connected by brick walkways, open-air courtyards, and gigantic heart pine beams. This local gem serves as a charming reflection of the style and feel of Wilmington’s 19th century working port days.

Great Scott!

Calling all movie buffs, TV fans, and car fanatics—this is the place for you! Owner Rusty Robinson has been collecting cars for over 25 years, and now owns over 35 cars from classic TV shows and movies. For just $5, you can visit Rusty’s TV & Movie Car Museum in Jackson, Tennessee, where you can snap photos with famous cars like Herbie the Love Bug, the DeLorean from Back to the Future, and the Mystery Machine from Scooby Doo.

The World is a Stage

The Durham Performing Arts Center is a world-class theater with 2,700 seats and intimate sight lines located in Durham, North Carolina. The DPAC is currently ranked as the #4 theater in the U.S., and hosts 200 performances throughout the year including touring Broadway productions, concerts, and comedy events. We loved the summer season, which included Cats, Paw Patrol Live, Hello, Dolly!, and Chelsea Handler.

Zippee!

Riding, climbing, and soaring—a few of the many ways you can spend your time at the Asheville Treetops Adventure Park in Asheville, North Carolina. For your rambunctious youngsters, KidZip could be just the adventure they’ve been craving. KidZip is a kid-friendly zipline course with nine ziplines and four climbing elements, allowing younger adventurers to maneuver untethered to an adult. Kids can bring some friends (and an adult escort) and fly through the air up to 250 feet at a time!

Lovely Lettering

Elisabeth Rose Social Stationery has become a beloved Lake Norman fixture. The gorgeous shop in Davidson, North Carolina, features exquisite bespoke paper products customized for weddings, events, and personal stationery. Bookshelves showcase a variety of products including notebooks, journals, gift wrapping, candles, and home goods. Every delightful object has been carefully curated by owner Elisabeth Connolly, who founded the shop out of her love for handwritten correspondence, combined with her deeply rooted desire to create art.

All Aboard!

All aboard the Gypsy Express! Take a ride on this adorable mini train, and enjoy the scenic views of Gypsy Hill Park in Staunton, Virginia. Operated entirely by volunteers the mini train is a nonprofit organization who’s been delivering smiles to the young and young at heart for over 60 years. Open 1–5 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays, May through October, tickets are just $1.
