Local Love Winter 2019 – Part 2

Local Love Winter 2019 - Part 2

We love supporting neighborhood businesses and getting to know the awesome people behind them! This week, we’re sharing seven local treasures from around our Nest Realty locations:

If you know your Ruby Salts from your Big Islands, you’ll want to head down to Pearl Raw Bar in Richmond, VA’s Fan District on Monday nights for Oyster Night. Specials include oyster stew, buffalo-fried oysters, and of course a dozen of the finest raw oysters the Chesapeake Bay has to offer. When the weather is nice, Pearl opens the garage doors of its back patio for an al fresco dining experience.

TASTE THE APPALACHIANS

How does California-based brewery, Sierra Nevada, deliver fresh beer to raving fans east of the Mississippi? Open an outpost in Mills River, NC, of course. This is no satellite brewery, however, with more than 185 acres of production, tours, tastings, and even a restaurant. Home brewers and beer aficionados must check out the
Beer Geek Tour!

LOOKING BACK TO MOVE FORWARD

More than a museum, the Center for Civil and Human Rights in downtown Atlanta, GA, is an interactive experience. Exhibits draw parallels between the Civil Rights Movement and the current struggles for human rights worldwide. The museum hopes to spark conversation and inspire collective change.

TWINKLING LIGHTS

If Clark W. Griswold lived in Raleigh, NC, he’d be a loyal customer of the Holiday Light Store. Locally owned by Lin and Cindy Honeycutt, the holiday light displays are each created by hand in their on-site workshop. New arrivals include an animated LED snowy log cabin. Though you can purchase online, a visit in–person allows you to see the lit creations in the low lighting of the store’s display room.

CLASSIC CUT

Local Love Winter 2019 - Part 2
Part classic butcher shop, part farm-to-table restaurant, the Olde Towne Butcher of Fredericksburg, VA, is the best of both worlds. Grab one of the chef’s daily specials for lunch and get inspired to cook something for dinner. On the way out, walk upstairs and purchase your fresh local ingredients and meats. Ask the butcher about a cut you’ve never tried before, they’d be happy to give you a recommendation.

CHEERS!

Celebrating 10 years of winemaking in the Shenandoah Valley, Barren Ridge Vineyards is nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Fishersville, VA. This dog-friendly vineyard allows you to bring a picnic and your four-legged friends. The tasting room offers several Virginia varietals and sunset views. Check the events calendar for the next acoustic open mic night or Swedish Fire Festival!

SWEET TREATS

Local Love Winter 2019 - Part 2
A classic ice cream store at heart, Sugar Magnolia in Blacksburg, VA, has all your frozen favorites. Handdipped cones, milkshakes, classic and creative flavors (hello, strawberry cheesecake!)…all made from milk by Virginia-based Homestead Creamery. Order a cone and peruse the rest of the shop that features chocolates, gifts, and witty cards on its shelves.
