Man’s Best Friend

Pet Friendly Fun

By Ellen and Mark Allmond

Pets provide so much to our lives and are part of our family. They like to go everywhere. Dogs are eager companions for daily activities and adventures. Living in such a pet-friendly area is wonderful and part of what makes where we live so great!

We recently added a new four-legged baby to our family. Not purposefully, mind you, but she insisted and made herself right at home. Her name is Georgia, inspired by the state we grew up in, a niece, a father/father-in-law, and from her Bulldog/Border Collie bloodline that made us think of our our beloved Georgia bulldogs. We really did not need more pets and we really tried to not engage her, but she was persistent. Her playful and endearing puppy ways won over the entire family! She mesmerized us with one blue eye, one hazel eye, and the sweetest temperament to boot.

So, now she requires attention, exercise, and training to manage her energetic ways. We decided to use this as a way to discover exactly how pet-friendly Western North Carolina is and all the options in different areas. We will be exploring and educating ourselves as well as socializing her with other dogs. Georgia is always ready to “go!”

Our first adventure into training was at the Mills River Dog Park.

As we parked, Georgia had already spotted dogs running around having fun. She was a mixture of shy, curious, and hesitant, then she showed us she was willing to leave our arms to adventure into the unknown. The dog park was a perfect way to introduce her to all the fun that is in store for this happy pup. This park has lots of obstacles and ramps for her enjoyment. This is the closest dog park to our house, so I think Georgia is going to have fun coming back to play and show off her agility as she grows.

Stay tuned for more adventures with Georgia in NC! #livewhereyoulove
