We’re proud of the team of agents we’ve assembled here at Nest Realty. We think they’re pretty awesome, and we think you will too. During our “Meet the Agent” series, we sit down with our agents to learn more about them, what makes them tick, and why they’re passionate about the real estate industry. In this installment, we chat with Melda “Mel” Bates, an Associate Broker at Nest Realty Fredericksburg.
Nest Realty: Tell us a bit about yourself! Where are you from? What brought you to Fredericksburg?
MB: Detroit! I was brought to the area when my husband accepted a job in Northern Virginia.
NR: How did you get into real estate?
MB: I accidentally got into real estate when I sent my resume to a top producing team to do their marketing while living in Florida. I was wanting to see if my resume was desirable and they called me for an interview and hired me on the spot. I had all intentions only keeping the job for a short time as I had my own closing business and then 2008 happened. I ended up being with that team until I moved to Northern, VA, in 2012.
NR: What was your previous career? How has that prepared you for real estate?
MB: I have been in Real Estate in some form or fashion since 2004. I was an independent loan closer (mobile) for several years prior to getting into real estate license.
NR: What led you to Nest Realty, as opposed to another brokerage?
MB: I loved that Nest was not your ordinary brokerage. I wanted something that was an outside the box option.
NR: What is your favorite part of being an agent?
MB: The ability to make my own schedule and not have to live to a clock.
NR: Do you have a specific area of expertise to offer clients?
MB: I love selling downtown historic homes and I love first time home buyers.
NR: What makes you different from other agents? What sets you apart?
MB: I answer my phone when someone calls me. I eat, sleep and dream real estate, it never shuts off in my brain.
NR: What are five adjectives that describe you?
MB: Quirky, unique, punctual, active, and weird.
NR: Who would be your dream client?
MB: A first time homebuyer in the Historic Downtown area.
NR: If you had one piece of advice for a first-time home buyer, what would it be?
MB: Don’t bring your parents.
NR:What is your favorite season in Fredericksburg?
