Meet the Agent: Suzanne Molloy

Agent: Suzanne Molloy

We’re proud of the team of agents we’ve assembled here at Nest Realty. We think they’re pretty awesome, and we think you will too. During our “Meet the Agent” series, we sit down with our agents to learn more about them, what makes them tick, and why they’re passionate about the real estate industry. In this installment, we chat with Suzanne Molloy, a Realtor with Nest Realty in Asheville, North Carolina.

Nest Realty: Tell us a bit about yourself! Where are you from? What brought you to Asheville?
Suzanne Molloy: I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, and moved to Asheville with my family when I was in high school. At that time, Asheville was so small. Hendersonville Road was only two lanes! After traveling, college, and starting my career in the Raleigh area, my husband and I moved back to Asheville. I had always loved the mountains. Our beautiful city was blossoming due to the great efforts of many strong leaders who created a destination full of the arts, food, outdoor activities, and culture. We couldn’t wait to come home. Raising our family here has been a wonderful experience. I always tell my clients, if you have a job and buy a home here, “You’ll Never Want to Leave.”

NR: How did you get into real estate?
SM: Since a young age, I have always loved architecture, public service, design, and home building. When I moved back to Asheville, I worked for the city in Public Works and had the opportunity to serve on their planning, development, and real estate committees as well as many other fantastic projects. At that time, I had no idea that this would lead to a career in real estate. However, after the birth of my second child, I left this position and decided to get my general contractor’s license and start building homes. At the same time, I decided to get my real estate license. After being a “Parade of Homes” winner, clients just started coming to me and asking for help with real estate. Having grown up here, knowing our community well, being honest, having a service attitude, and being so involved in the housing industry…things just happened!

NR: What was your previous career? How has that prepared you for real estate?
SM: I have a B.S. in Civil Engineering-Construction Management as well as an M.S. in Soil Science (Land Use) from NCSU. The first 15 years of my career, I worked as an environmental engineer, public works manager, and then transitioned into building homes. Over the years I have enjoyed working in planning, development, and transportation as well as greenway and parks. I love infrastructure, buildings, parks, and recreation…and stay on top of what is going on in our community. Where are new sidewalks going in? Where are new trails planned? What is happening in our community? This is so helpful to my clients. One of my favorite sales was when I advised a client to buy in a new community (which at the time had poor pedestrian access) and seemed so out of place. I knew greenways and parks were being built right next to it in a few years and funding had been approved. No one was hardly buying these homes at this time. Wow. My clients are now living in one of the most highly sought after locations today.

NR: What led you to Nest Realty, as opposed to another brokerage?
SM: The leadership of the Asheville office as well as Nest’s commitment to top notch and innovative marketing. It’s not about the number of yard signs you put out. It is about the number of satisfied clients!

NR: What is your favorite part of being an agent?
SM: Getting to know my clients and providing solid guidance when buying in our market. In addition, I love helping my listing clients figure out what they should do before putting their home on the market as well as staging. Some of the before and afters have been amazing.

NR: Do you have a specific area of expertise to offer clients?
SM: Yes! If you need to sell your home, I will provide a complete report on what you should do to prepare your home for sale. My recommendations are always very cost conscious and work. In addition, I will offer some staging to clients to help make their homes shine. If you are looking for a Realtor who will just tell you to paint all of your walls “gray” and replace your carpets…that’s NOT me. I promise you’ll get more details and you will be surprised. If you need to buy a home, I truly know our area and will be sure to expose you to the many places off the beaten path which make Asheville such a great place to live, work, and play.

NR: What makes you different from other agents? What sets you apart?
SM: My ability to listen to what my clients need and want.

NR: What are five adjectives that describe you?
SM: Honest, innovative, informed, responsive, and caring.

NR: Who would be your dream client?
SM: Have to admit, I’ve had dreams about finding Michelle and Barack Obama a home! Rumor was they were looking in the area at one time.

NR: If you had one piece of advice for a first-time home buyer, what would it be?
SM: Make sure you have an agent who will work for you, educate you, and have your best interest at heart! Your first home purchase can either be the most valuable asset you will ever acquire (and can change your financial trajectory) or your worst nightmare. So be patient and make sure you take everything into consideration, including location and re-sale.

NR: What is your favorite season in Asheville?
SM: Fall….leaf season!
