We think we have some pretty awesome agents here at Nest, and we think you’ll like them too. During our “Meet the Agent” series, we sit down with our agents to learn more about them—what makes them tick and why they’re passionate about the real estate industry. For this in installment, we chat with Beverly Stermer, a Realtor at Nest Realty Shenandoah Valley.
Nest Realty: Tell us a bit about yourself! Where are you from? What brought you to the Shenandoah Valley?
Beverly Stermer: I’m definitely a Virginia girl! I was born in Richmond, VA and grew up in Martinsville, VA. I lived in Staunton in the late 90’s and loved the community, the friends and the mountains. So when I had a chance to move back to the area in the mid 2000’s, I jumped at it!
NR: How did you get into real estate?
BS: In 2007, as the market was getting ready to tank, I needed to sell my house fast! I watched all of the home improvement shows on HGTV and knew that I had to make it look great in order to sell quickly. I staged it perfectly and found a Realtor who was great at marketing. I sold it the first weekend it was listed for full asking price! After that, I wanted to help others in the same situation and make a little extra money so I started a party-time home staging business. After several years of staging homes for Realtors and homeowners, I decided that I should go ahead and get my real estate license. It’s been wonderful!
NR: What was your previous career? How has that prepared you for real estate?
BS: Prior to becoming a Realtor, I was in sales as a Marketing Associate and District Sales Manager for a large foodservice distribution company. The sales training I received has definitely helped me in my career as a Realtor. As a 100% commissioned sales rep, you need to be structured, self-motivated and able to work independently. But most importantly, you need to take care of your customers.
NR: What led you to Nest Realty, as opposed to another brokerage?
BS: When I read Nest’s Manifesto—I knew it was love! I have always said that I truly want the clients that I work with to have the best experience possible when buying or selling a house, whether it’s their first home or 15th home. I want everyone to walk away saying “Wow! What a great experience!” And Nest Realty believes that, too! I also am so very impressed with the technology they use and with the quality of their marketing materials.
NR: What is your favorite part of being an agent?
BS: The hugs at closing time! Knowing I just made some new friends!
NR: Do you have a specific area of expertise to offer clients?
BS: Since I had a small home staging business, I am able to offer that service to sellers.
NR: What makes you different from other agents? What sets you apart?
BS: My “let’s make it happen” attitude.
NR: What are five adjectives that describe you?
BS: Eternally optimistic, witty, loyal, resourceful, and MacGyver-ish.
NR: Who would be your dream client?
BS: Just one??? I would have a blast with Ellen Degeneres….or maybe Oprah….Jimmy Fallon?
NR: If you had one piece of advice for a first-time home buyer, what would it be?
BS: Look at as many homes as you can before you make a decision….online, open houses, with your Realtor. Don’t rush and don’t let anyone push you! This is a huge decision. Get a home inspection!
NR: What is your favorite season in the Shenandoah Valley?
BS: Oh gosh….another tough one. Have you seen pictures of downtown Staunton in the snow? Beautiful! Fall is gorgeous here, too. And Spring….oh Spring! Summer….ok.
