During our “Meet the Agent” series, we sit down with our agents to learn more about them, what makes them tick, and why they’re passionate about the real estate industry. In this installment, we chat with Cate Scales, a Broker at Nest Realty Asheville.
Nest Realty: Tell us a bit about yourself! Where are you from? What brought you to Asheville?
Cate Scales: My husband and I moved here after a ten-year adventure on the island of Saipan (near Guam), a mere 10,000 miles away! The music and the progressive culture in Asheville brought us to this area when we were trying to figure out where we wanted to live, and it only took one visit to confirm that this special place would be our new home. We landed in Montford, Asheville’s oldest neighborhood, and 14 years later there are no regrets!
NR: How did you get into real estate?
CS: Working in real estate is something I have always wanted to pursue. It took a dear friend encouraging me to take the leap to use my unique skill set and resources to help people with their biggest investment. Knowledge of our area, having great community connections, and my ability to work with people has given me the confidence to take this path.
NR: What was your previous career? How has that prepared you for real estate?
CS: Interior design. I have worked with clients from all over the Asheville area with projects in new construction, renovation, project management, and staging. I see beyond the shag carpet and closed in spaces, and enjoy getting people excited about the possibilities! I can see what the end-result will be, provide realistic budget advice, and guide clients to make good decisions. In real estate, I bring that same vision and guidance when looking at properties or advising people about what would help bring the best return on their investment.
NR: What led you to Nest Realty, as opposed to another brokerage?
CS: Nest Realty’s approach to real estate is seriously refreshing. Their attention to detail, client and agent support, and community involvement is inspiring. I feel very lucky to be a part of such a great team!
NR: What is your favorite part of being an agent?
CS: Working with people, and exploring our area’s great neighborhoods and communities.
NR: Do you have a specific area of expertise to offer clients?
CS: I bring extensive design and construction experience with me to help clients to see the potential in properties!
NR: What makes you different from other agents? What sets you apart?
CS: My ability to understand people’s objectives, and work with them to meet their needs. I form strong connections with my clients, and always have their best interests to motivate me to work hard for them.
NR: What are five adjectives that describe you?
CS: Creative, honest, reliable, positive, and approachable.
NR: Who would be your dream client?
CS: A client who trusts me and my ability to exceed their expectations.
NR: If you had one piece of advice for a first-time home buyer, what would it be?
CS: Work with your lender to create a realistic budget, and be open to advice from the professionals that will support and guide you to your new home.
NR: What is your favorite season in Asheville?
CS: Before moving here I lived in climates with one season, hot. Now I can’t imagine not having the benefits of all four. Spring is gorgeous in the mountains, and my favorite. The cool mornings and bursts of color as things begin to bloom and grow are lovely.
