Meet the Agent: Janet Oppenheimer

agent Janet Oppenheimer

We’re proud of the team of agents we’ve assembled here at Nest Realty. We think they’re pretty awesome, and we think you will too. During our “Meet the Agent” series, we sit down with our agents to learn more about them, what makes them tick, and why they’re passionate about the real estate industry. In this installment, we chat with agent Janet Oppenheimer, a Broker with Nest Realty in Asheville, North Carolina.

Nest Realty: Tell us a bit about yourself! What brought you to Asheville?
Janet Oppenheimer: I lived and worked in the South Florida market since 1980. For 15 of those years, during the summer, I would attend an adult running camp at UNC-Asheville. I was drawn to the area by the great outdoor life, simpler, laid-back existence, and the beauty of the mountains. I decided to make a work/lifestyle transition to Asheville in 2005. I’ve never regretted the move.

NR: How did you get into real estate?
JO: My husband of 46 years and his father were real estate Brokers throughout their entire careers. Both have passed on, and I wanted to continue the family legacy in real estate. Additionally, I want to help folks through their transitions. I’ve gone through many myself. Buying and selling a home as part of a life transition is one of the most important and critical decisions one can make.

NR: What was your previous career? How has that prepared you for real estate?
JO: I was a public relations practitioner and marketing professional my entire career. During that time, I owned PR firms in New York and Florida. My skills in client relationships and advisement, customer service, sales, and marketing have prepared me well for real estate.

NR: What led you to Nest Realty, as opposed to another brokerage?
JO: Nest was a perfect match for me. Nest is a family and family is critical to me. My goals and theirs match. In addition, the agent/client support and marketing expertise is top notch.

NR: Do you have a specific area of expertise to offer clients?
JO: My particular background and life experience lends itself well to helping anyone who is making an important transition in their lives. I particularly would be helpful as a guide, a resource, and a trusted advisor for those making a lifestyle change due to a remote working opportunity, a second home in the mountains, retirement, or downsizing as the next step.

NR: What are five adjectives that describe you?
JO: Empathetic, planner, persistent, trustworthy, and limitless.

NR: If you had one piece of advice for a first-time home buyer, what would it be?
JO: Be realistic. As a general rule, I give the advice to aspire to live beneath your means—meaning don’t over extend yourself in your first home purchase. Make sure you are saving regularly and putting aside enough for that vacation and the unexpected.

NR: What is your favorite season in Asheville?
JO: Asheville is beautiful and special in all seasons. I particularly like the fall and spring because of the cooler weather for running and bright, happy colors surrounding us!

NR: What is your favorite quotation?
JO: “Eventually all things fall into place. Until then, laugh at the confusion, live for the moments, and know everything happens for a reason.” – Albert Schweitzer
