Meet the Agent: Mary Rayner

During our “Meet the Agent” series, we sit down with our agents to learn more about them, what makes them tick, and why they’re passionate about the real estate industry. In this installment, we chat with Mary Rayner, a Broker at Nest Realty Wilmington.

Nest Realty: Tell us a bit about yourself! Where are you from? What brought you to Wilmington?
Mary Rayner: I lived in New York most of my life. While visiting a high school friend in Wilmington, NC, 12 years ago, I decided that I had to make a move to this beautiful area. It was love at first sight!

NR: How did you get into real estate?
MR: It was something I always thought I would be good at, but when I moved from New York to Wilmington, I decided to make it my career.

NR: What was your previous career? How has that prepared you for real estate?
MR: Before becoming a Real Estate Broker, I worked as a bookkeeper. I have an associates degree in accounting. My husband is a CPA, so I also assisted him with his accounting business for years. I am very detailed orientated and enjoy working with numbers which helps me with offers, closing statements and financing.

NR: What led you to Nest Realty, as opposed to another brokerage?
MR: I love working at Nest because of it’s size and uniqueness. I have been with other big brokerage firms in the past and I enjoy the cozy feeling that Nest brings to it’s Brokers and clients.

NR: What is your favorite part of being an agent?
MR: My favorite part of being an agent is the excitement of finding the perfect home for my client. I love the feeling when we come across the “right one.”

NR: Do you have a specific area of expertise to offer clients?
MR: My clients have always told me that I have good vision. I can walk into a house and come up with ideas to make it fit their criteria. Some of my clients have used my suggestions and made changes immediately after they move in. I also take the time to search for the perfect house before I take them out, making sure it’s meets most or all of their requests!

NR: What makes you different from other agents? What sets you apart?
MR: I like to establish a relationship with my clients first. I try not to be too pushy, but know when to be aggressive to get what they want. I carefully listen to their requests and try not to waste their time. Once under contract, I work diligently to assure them a smooth transaction. Many of my past clients have become my friends!

NR: What are five adjectives that describe you?
MR: Organized, creative, compassionate, friendly, and a perfectionist (to a fault sometimes).

NR: Who would be your dream client?
MR: A CASH buyer, looking for a three million dollar home and they need to buy right away!!

NR: If you had one piece of advice for a first-time home buyer, what would it be?
MR: Look at this house as a starter home. One that you will be in for probably 7-10 years. Most people move on after that time.

NR: What is your favorite season in Wilmington?
MR: Definitely Fall!
