During our “Meet the Agent” series, we sit down with our agents to learn more about them, what makes them tick, and why they’re passionate about the real estate industry. In this installment, we chat with Michael McCown, a REALTOR with Nest Realty New River Valley.
Nest Realty: Tell us a bit about yourself! What brought you to the area?
Michael McCown: I’ve lived here my whole life!
NR: How did you get into real estate?
MM: I am a new agent, but I have been investing in real estate since 2014. I have worked the past decade in health care and I’m excited to be of service in a different capacity.
NR: What was your previous career? How has that prepared you for real estate?
MM: I was previously a physical therapist assistant. It’s provided me both with both social skills and problem solving skills that otherwise would have taken a lifetime to develop.
NR: What led you to Nest Realty, as opposed to another brokerage?
MM: When researching where I wanted to hang my license, it was obvious Nest was a step above the rest in respect to their resources and the education they provide to their clients. They set high standards for their agents/Brokers and I knew I wanted my name to be associated with a Brokerage with a quality reputation.
NR: What is your favorite part of being an agent?
MM: I look forward to educating my clients on every step of the home buying/selling journey. It can be an intimidating process, but being proactive and transparent will help reduce the anxiety.
NR: Do you have a specific area of expertise to offer clients?
MM: It’s my goal to make what is often an emotional decision, a sound financial decision as well.
NR: What are five adjectives that describe you?
MM: Driven, compassionate, energetic, calculated, and charismatic.
NR: Who would be your dream client?
MM: I enjoy working with friend clients. They can often times be more open throughout the home buying process and it’s fun to interact with them in a different element
NR: If you had one piece of advice for a first-time home buyer, what would it be?
MM: Don’t feel like you have to know exactly what you want from day one. Sometimes you have to kiss a lot of frogs to find that prince!
NR: What is your favorite season in the New River Valley?
MM: Fall—milder weather and Hokie Football!
