During our “Meet the Agent” series, we sit down with our agents to learn more about them, what makes them tick, and why they’re passionate about the real estate industry.
In this installment, we chat with Missy Surratt, a Broker with Nest Realty Wilmington, Hampstead.
Nest Realty: Tell us a bit about yourself! What brought you to the area?
Missy Surratt: I’m originally from Burgaw, North Carolina, and attended CFCC way back when. I met my husband in Drafting & Design class, but we didn’t date until years later as he joined the Navy. I worked as a drafter designer in Wilmington, and as Tony (now hubs) came to town to visit family and friends, we happened to see each other out and about, and the rest is history 😉 We moved to Virginia for 12 years, where we had our boys, and I worked with some of the most awesome government contractors and engineers. We were back in the Topsail area for vacation with family and decided to buy some property for the future. At that point we started planning our dream home and moved back as quickly as the Navy would let us. That was almost 20 years ago, and we haven’t looked back.
NR: How did you get into real estate? How long have you been practicing?
MS: I’ve been practicing Real Estate more than six years. After handling the permits, subcontractors and day-to-day details of building our home, I felt like this part of Real Estate was for me. I enjoy incorporating that knowledge with my love for design and decorating, in order to help my clients on an even larger scale and across multiple facets of the journey.
NR: What led you to Nest Realty, as opposed to another brokerage?
MS: Part of the reason I was drawn to Nest Realty was their marketing and tools to educate clients and keep clients, past and present as top priority. I’ve learned as I’ve moved through this thing called life that relationships are worth making time for and I believe Nest will help me be a better person for that.
NR: What is your favorite part of being an agent?
MS: Being able to engage and help buyers and sellers work through the process of literally one of the most important decisions of their life.
NR: Do you have a specific area of expertise to offer clients?
MS: I can help clients see past the surface of any property, appreciate the “meat and potatoes,” and then focus on the prettying up 😉
NR: What are five adjectives that describe you?
MS: Honest to a fault, compassionate, energetic (most of the time!), faithful, relentless
NR: Who would be your dream client?
MS: Strangely…Faith Hill. I like her style and commitment.
NR: If you had one piece of advice for a first-time home buyer, what would it be?
MS: Get yourself a Nest Agent and trust the process.
NR: What is your favorite season in Wilmington?
MS: Boating season, always!
