During our “Meet the Agent” series, we sit down with our agents to learn more about them, what makes them tick, and why they’re passionate about the real estate industry. In this installment, we chat with Tracy Draughon, a Broker at Nest Realty Wilmington.
Nest Realty: Tell us a bit about yourself! Where are you from? What brought you to Wilmington?
Tracy Draughon: I grew up on the Gulf Coast of Florida but spent time in the summers visiting family in Raleigh. Thirty years ago, after graduating from The University of Florida, I came to Raleigh where I eventually met my husband who is from here. He gradually took me east until we took a leap of faith to our favorite city in the state – Wilmington. He is actually a UNCW graduate, so I didn’t have to twist his arm very much to make this leap!
NR: How did you get into real estate?
TD: Real Estate seemed like a natural career to transition to once I moved to Wilmington. It marries my past career with my strong desire to work independently, be challenged to grow in my business, and work with people, assisting them through what can be an emotional and complex ride. I’d love to help people through the residential process so they can create the life they desire.
NR: What was your previous career? How has that prepared you for real estate?
TD: I was Senior Litigation Paralegal for an extremely busy law firm in Raleigh. It was fast paced with the highest level of accountability. That level of responsibility and organization, coupled with understanding procedures, processes, law, negotiation, and people skills trained me well for the residential process.
NR: What led you to Nest Realty, as opposed to another brokerage?
TD: Nest is innovative, fresh and the clients come first. I knew if I was purchasing or selling my home I would use Nest Realty myself…I love the marketing, the tools, and the level of professionalism grounded with warmth and care…making the clients comfortable and keeping the process fun throughout what can be a confusing process.
NR: What is your favorite part of being an agent?
TD: The service of helping people through the process…I’ve moved thirteen times and restored a historic home, so I understand the complexities of what purchasers and sellers go through.
NR: Do you have a specific area of expertise to offer clients?
TD: I’m a communicator…and believe communication and availability is key. I need to understand their desires, concerns, and questions, as well as keep them apprised and informed along the way…so they have fewer concerns and questions, and the process stays on track.
NR: What makes you different from other agents? What sets you apart?
TD: A high degree of accountability throughout the process. The client comes first.
NR: What are five adjectives that describe you?
TD: Friendly, trustworthy, productive, warm, and intelligent.
NR: Who would be your dream client?
TD: My mother, because then I would know she’d be living close by! She lives all the way in Florida.
NR: If you had one piece of advice for a first-time home buyer, what would it be?
TD: To take pen to paper and be realistic with your budget.
NR:What is your favorite season in Wilmington?
TD: Spring! April, May and June are stunning months here.
