Meet the Agent: Valeria Wyda

Valeria Wyda

We’re proud of the team of agents we’ve assembled here at Nest Realty. We think they’re pretty awesome, and we think you will, too. During our “Meet the Agent” series, we sit down with our agents to learn more about them, what makes them tick, and why they’re passionate about the real estate industry.

In this installment, we chat with Valeria Wyda, a Realtor with Nest Realty Asheville.

Nest Realty: Tell us a bit about yourself! What brought you to the area?
Valeria Wyda: I came to the U.S. from Argentina in 2001 after graduating from architecture school. I was hired by an international design firm that specialized in resort design. That is where I met my husband who is a landscape architect. We moved to Asheville in 2003 and I continued working as an architect designing large institutional projects, multi-family and commercial. I became a realtor in 2006 and continued to work on both fields while growing our family. In 2013 I founded Asheville HOME Realty with the concept of a boutique real estate service focused on a one-on-one real estate experience. I have been honored to be a top agent in Asheville since 2017 and moved to Nest in February 2022. I have always admired and looked up to the Nest team, brand and leadership.

NR: How did you get into real estate? How long have you been practicing?
VW: Working in architecture I have always been fascinated with the life of a building, not the usable life, but the life within, what makes a house a home, what makes a classroom building a school. The journey of finding a home is not much different that the journey of designing and building a home. I became an architect in 2000 and a realtor in 2006. I combined both careers for 9 years as I grew my family and I chose real estate when my second child was born because I needed a career that gave me flexibility.

NR: How has your previous career prepared you for real estate?
VW: Architecture gives me a great advantage, not only for knowledge in construction and code, but also in the visioning, the space planning, and expansion and remodel opportunities, and having an understanding of how flow and use of a space is created.

NR: What led you to Nest Realty, as opposed to another brokerage?
VW: I was a top agent at a large international brokerage and I was really happy. But after a while I was very successful and felt I mattered, but I noticed that other folks felt the exact opposite. There were many people, new agents, struggling professionals get lost in the mass and felt invisible and their numbers became their worth. I always looked up to Angie Cullen and Glenn as caring individuals who reached out to the community through their work as real estate agents. I loved the idea of having an office of professionals who are friends and family. As an outsider it was easy to perceive where their success was measured by how much they could help others, and not by how much money people made. Nest branding and marketing was something I always admired but could never reproduce with my limited resources.

NR: What’s your favorite part of being an agent?
VW: I love to have a job that has a big impact in people’s lives.

NR: Do you have a specific area of expertise to offer clients?
VW: Helping folks upsize or downsize their housing situation.

NR: What are five adjectives to describe you?
VW: Resourceful, problem solver, approachable, nurturer, simple.

NR: Who would be your dream client?
VW: Someone that wants to sell their home, but gives me the keys to handle everything and leaves the country on vacation.

NR: If you had one piece of advice for a first-time home buyer, what would it be?
VW: Have the finances ready ahead of time, shop for 20K below their pre-approval level so they are the strongest of the bunch (since most people shop for up to or above their capabilities).

NR: What’s your favorite season in Asheville?
VW: Summer. I love the long warm days and sweet breezy nights in the mountains…and absolutely love to make quick getaways to the ocean every time I can.
