New River Valley Summer Bucket List: Enjoy music at Floyd Country Store

Welcome to our final week, Week 5! In Nest Realty’s Summer Bucket List Series, we highlight six of our favorite summer activities in the New River Valley area. Let us know which adventure was your favorite after you tackle our bucket list! Next, send a photo or leave a comment about your day in the sun. We hope these inspire you to love where you live even more than you already do!

Our fifth bucket-list item for your summer in New River Valley is to enjoy Friday night music at the Floyd Country Store. Described as an “old-timey hangout,” Floyd Country store offers sandwiches, candy, ice cream, clothes, and live music on the weekends. The Friday Night Jamboree offers a traditional gathering place and night for musicians, dancers, and visitors from all over. For only $5 for admission, you can swing by the Friday Night Jamboree for a night of local bluegrass music and dancing from numerous musicians.

The show starts every Friday at 6:30 pm and lasts until close at 10:30 pm. Seating is limited, especially during the busy summer months. There is standing room outside, but if you’re seeking a seat, arrive early. In addition to musicians, a variety of flatfoot dancers and cloggers also frequent the store, so you’ll get a real show! In between musicians, make sure to check out the items sold at the store, which includes a “quirky” collection of merchandise with “simple country living in mind.” Browse cooking ware, books, clothing, and even local products such arts, crafts, and preserves. If you like the live music, consider purchasing a CD of music from one of the regional performers!

Check out the Friday Night Jamboree for a fun event for the whole family—the website says you’ll see ages 6 to 96 breaking it down on the dance floor! Go join in!
