Transportation Costs

The EPA released a study this past week that looked at the green house gas emissions and the effect of efficient / green homes and green vehicles in our lives. They also studied the same information but compared in-town living to suburban life. In the study, they found that location more than anything else contributes to the amount of environmental impact a household has.

For families in single family homes, transportation is responsible for 55% of carbon emissions and for families in apartments, the number is a whopping 70.9%. So, while being conscious of the type of home you buy and the energy efficiencies of those homes are important, location plays an even larger role. And for buyers, this translates to potential long term savings at the pump and in heating dollars.
