We’ve created an ideal one-day schedule for five of our favorite towns (Asheville, Charlottesville, Fredericksburg, New River Valley, Wilmington) . From dawn till dusk, we’ve got every minute mapped out. You’ll get to the heart of each town and discover what makes them special. Some lineups are action packed, some are a bit more relaxed, each brimming with adventure.
This week we plan out a perfect day in Asheville…an ARTISTIC ENCLAVE. Read on for tips about where to eat and what to do!

The early bird catches the worm, and the early riser needs strong coffee. Get to High Five Coffee at 7:30 a.m., just as the baristas are opening the doors, to order a strongly brewed cup of joe. Or try the barista’s choice: a weekly coffee creation with an imaginative take. We were swooning over the blueberries and cream—a double espresso with steamed cream, fresh blueberries and raw sugar.
Wide-eyed and eager, head down to the French Broad River for some early morning stream time. The super friendly pros at Asheville Fly Fishing Company can take you on an amazing guided adventure. You’ll need a one-day fishing license, available through the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission.

Next it’s off to Early Girl Eatery for some good ole’ southern cooking. The staff is almost as sweet as the homemade blackberry jam that graces each table. Order the signature Early Girl benny—grit cakes topped with country ham, spinach, poached eggs, tomato gravy, and avocado. Use the warm and flakey homemade biscuit to sop up all that yolky goodness.
Step from the bustling streets and into Spa Theology, where you’ll be instantly transported into a serene and calming oasis. Choose from the menu of signature spa treatments that are created using local ingredients: tea from the Dobra Tea House, chocolate from the French Broad Chocolate Lounge, and beer from the Asheville Brewing Company. On the way out, be sure to browse their collection of local beauty and bath products, and adorable window displays.
