As a true Charlottesville native, Joey offers both her knowledge and love of the area to all of her clients.
Joey grew up a stone’s throw from McGuffey Park in Downtown Charlottesville. By 3, she mastered the swing set. By 13, she could map the Mall. After Wesleyan University, late Madrid nights, and building a house on a Uruguayan beach, Joey missed her hometown community. She returned to Charlottesville, finding work in nonprofit fundraising and commercial real estate. A seed of romance sprouted with a lanky local carpenter and, after attending UVA’s Darden School, she and her husband, Jeff Erkelens, started Latitude 38, a design-build firm focused on modern, energy-efficient homes in Charlottesville’s urban core. With a decade’s experience in urban development through sustainable practices, Joey values finding people the best spaces for their needs in a town she loves. These days, she often walks with her daughters from their home in Fifeville across the mall to visit her parents, who still live in the house where Joey grew up.
