What book has left a lasting impression?

To Kill a Mockingbird is chock full of lessons. Scout's wisdom, “I think there's just one kind of folks. Folks.” stays with me even now.

Small Town or City Life?

Since childhood, I dreamt of city life. I love that Richmond is a city with a small-town sense of community. Best of both worlds!

Dream job in another life?

Torch singer and Broadway actor. I love to sing and perform. Nowadays, it's mostly car “concerts” or singing outbursts of lyrics in my head.

Favorite Richmond neighborhood spot?

Patrick Henry Pub. My partner Ron and I often call the pub our living room away from home.

When you think of home...:

A fire in the woodstove on a cold night at the family farm, a shared home-cooked meal, laughter, and where I can most be myself.

Favorite Richmond non-profits?

Four organizations that do work near and dear to my heart: Safe Space Market, RVA Community Fridges, Side by Side, and Richmond Community Bail Fund.

    We bought a home outside of Charlottesville with Jess’s invaluable guidance. She explained jargon and procedures carefully, checked in regularly to make sure we felt confident moving forward, and really allowed to feel ownership of the home buying process. She genuinely cares for her clients and it shows! I felt like she was in our corner and celebrated with us when we snagged the house of our dreams. I highly recommend Jess and her whole team.

    Our experience with Jess was amazing. She was extremely knowledgeable and always took the time to walk us though and answer any questions we had.     Jessica was excellent throughout the entire process. She explained things well and was timely with her responsiveness to questions or concerns. The entire process was smooth from start to finish. Jessica's knowledge of local vendors was also extremely helpful in my securing inspections, home insurance, warranty, workmen, etc. Everything was just handled so smoothly and professionally. I highly recommend her and would definitely use her again in the future and suggest her to anyone who asks my opinion for an gent.

Jess Houser at Home Sweet Home RVA met us to help figure out what we wanted, what we needed, and how to start looking. In just a couple months she helped us find a place being built in our desired area, secure it at asking price, and spoke up for us as we worked with builder. We love our new place (that has already gained value), and are glad to have a new friend that lives just a couple blocks over.
