The West End (City)

Need to be near Downtown, but want some more elbow room? Check out the city's West End, which stretches from the Downtown Expressway to the Henrico County line and features larger lot sizes and homes with ample square footage. You’ll need to be prepared to pay for the convenience, but you can find plenty of space for Fido in the city’s West End.

Key Features

Architectural Integrity: This area of the city developed very quickly from the 1930s through 1950s. As a result, it is one of the most consistent areas in terms of architecture and building materials. While there are some pockets of post-war bungalows, ranches and Capes, most of the homes are brick and many feature slate roofs. This is also one of the most expensive areas of the city.

Convenience: The city’s West End is perfectly situated near Downtown, but is also convenient to the heavily-traveled corridors of the Downtown Expressway, Powhite Parkway, and Interstate 64. You can get where you need to go easily, and come home to an established neighborhood where off-street parking is the norm, not a luxury.

The Shops On-The-Avenues

While most cities are showing signs of sameness, Richmond bucks that trend in many places, none more obvious than the shops On-the-Avenues. Locally owned stores include clothiers like Irresistibles and Peter Blair and the boutique grocer Libbie Market.

University of Richmond Football

Known by locals as U of R, the University of Richmond is a nearly 200-year-old college in the City of Richmond. With an 8,700 seat stadium built in 2010, the football team returned to campus with much fanfare after decades of playing across town. Go Spiders!

Agecroft Hall

In the 1920s, a local businessman purchased Agecroft Hall and moved it piece by piece from its original location in Lancashire, England, to its current location in the heart of the Windsor Farms neighborhood. As the only true Tudor home located in Richmond, this 500-year-old residence and its gardens overlook the James River and are open for tours throughout the year.
