Asheville Summer Bucket List: Midnight Hole Falls

In Nest Realty’s Summer Bucket List Series, we’ll highlight five of our favorite summer activities around town. After you tackle our bucket list, let us know which adventure was your favorite! Send a photo or leave a comment about your day in the sun. We hope these inspire you to love where you live even more than you already do!

Our Asheville summer bucket list is filled with water-themed activities to help you stay cool! The first item on our list is to go for a dip at Midnight Hole Falls, a popular swimming hole located below a six-foot waterfall in the Big Creek section of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Bask on the rocks in the sun, wade in the shallow water by the falls, or even jump from the rocks below the falls. The clear, turquoise blue water and expansive surrounding rocks create one of the most picturesque swimming holes in North Carolina. Plus, because the area is so expansive, there’s plenty of room for all of your friends and family to enjoy the swimming hole.

To get to Midnight Hole Falls, park at the Big Creek trail head parking lot and follow the Big Creek trail for 1.4 miles. The trail itself is relatively easy with a moderate incline and beautiful views of the surrounding forest. Midnight Hole will be on your left. Visit Midnight Hole for an afternoon in the sun that all ages will enjoy! Just don’t forget sunscreen!
