Asheville Summer Bucket List: Swim in Skinny Dip Falls

Welcome to Week 2! In Nest Realty’s Summer Bucket List Series, we’ll highlight five of our favorite summer activities in the Asheville area. Let us know which adventure was your favorite after you tackle the bucket list! Send a photo or leave a comment about your day in the sun. We hope these inspire you to love where you live even more than you already do!

To continue the Asheville water theme, the second item on our Asheville bucket list is to swim in Skinny Dip Falls. Located on the Blue Ridge Parkway only about 20 miles from Asheville, Skinny Dip Falls is a refreshing swimming hole with several cascading waterfalls, clear water, and rocks to jump from. Three tiers of water falls hang over a 6-foot-deep pool that is perfect for a swim; you can even explore the tranquil semi-secluded areas surrounding the falls after you swim.

Despite the name, the swimming hole is not clothing-optional. Don’t forget a swimsuit, towel, and sunscreen! The trail to Skinny Dip Falls is located at mile marker 417 on the Blue Ridge Parkway at Looking Glass Overlook. Park your car in the parking area and follow the marked “Mountains to Sea Trail” that starts with steps before you bear left. The half-mile trail includes a couple of moderate climbs. In addition, if you happen to be driving down the parkway, Skinny Dip Falls is a great stop for you to stretch your legs.

There is no admission fee, so go for a dip on as many hot summer days as you please! If you’re ready for a longer hike, continue hiking the Mountains to Sea Trail past the bridge by the falls. You’ll encounter a steep, uphill climb that will bring you to Graveyard Fields, a 3-mile loop trail that also has scenic waterfalls. Happy swimming!
