I’ve been catching a little flak for too much focus on Charlottesville real estate statistics and neighborhood market reports. Having lived here for almost 15 years, I sometimes take some of the great area events for granted. So, let’s talk about some fun Fall events in the Charlottesville and Albemarle area:
If you’ve never been to Veritas Vineyards’ Starry Nights, then you’re really missing out. They host it four times each year – on the 2nd Saturday of the month from June through September. Although it’s been growing in popularity over the last few years, it’s arguably one of the ‘hidden gem’ events in all of Central Virginia. Starry Nights is an evening of music and wine under the stars. You can bring chairs (or a blanket) and a picnic dinner and enjoy great local music, dancing, a large campfire and great wine.
Unfortunately, the last Starry Nights of the season was this past Saturday night. However, you’ve got one more chance: Veritas is hosting a ‘Blues Under the Stars’ this Saturday, September 19th from 7-11. If you plan on going, here are a few tips:
1. Get there early. The music starts at 7, but gates open atleast an hour early. If you get there early, you can avoid the lines and stake out a great picnic spot close to the music, close to the campfire…or in a private spot away from everyone.
2. Order your tickets online. The lines can get long starting around 6:45. But if you’ve pre-ordered your tickets, you can pick up your tickets and be inside within a few seconds.
3. Bring any food you want, but no outside alcohol. Your coolers and bags will be checked and you’ll be sent back to your car to drop off any outside alcohol if you brought it. Veritas does sell wine by the bottle (and you get a free wine glass with your $15 entry fee).
So, if you missed the 4 other Starry Nights this year, you’ve got one more shot. For me, it’s one of the ‘can’t miss’ events in Central Virginia and hopefully Veritas expands their schedule for 2010.
Veritas Vineyards is located in Nelson County and it’s less than 15 minutes from most parts of Crozet and less than 30 from Downtown Charlottesville.
