Charlottesville Summer Bucket List: Tubing on the James River

Welcome to Week 4! In Nest Realty’s Summer Bucket List Series, we’ll highlight five of our favorite summer activities in the Charlottesville area. First, let us know which adventure was your favorite after you tackle the bucket list! Next, send a photo or leave a comment about your day in the sun. We hope these inspire you to love where you live even more than you already do!

The next time there’s a day of gentle breeze and warm sunshine in Charlottesville, make sure to go tubing down the James River! Picture lush greenery, clear blue skies, and water lapping your ankles as you glide down the long Virginian river. Laugh and chat with friends, a perfect summer pastime.

Conveniently, there are several companies, such as James River Runner and James River Reeling and Rafting, that arrange shuttles to the river and provide tubes for about $25 per person. Just be sure to check out their websites and call ahead to make a reservation for the time that you plan to go tubing. You’ll also want to wear close-toed shoes and sunscreen.

Tubing typically takes two to four hours, so you’ll definitely want to pack food and drinks. Some rental tubes have built-in spaces for coolers, but if you end up using the tubes don’t have built-in coolers, you can bring bungee cords to strap the coolers to your tubes. Too fun!

Enjoy your trip!
