Local Love: Fall Hike

hike

The arrival of fall brings some of the finest weather in Burke County; blue skies with cool crisp mornings and the warmth of the sun in the afternoons. It’s one of the most fabulous seasons nature has to offer! Why not enjoy it with a hike?

Take advantage of the cooler temps, pack up some snacks, and hit the trails for a fun day outside! Today, I’m recommending a hike close to Downtown Morganton—Shortoff Mountain. It’s about a four and a half mile round trip hike and has great views year round. Enjoy the fall views as the leaves begin to dazzle you with their autumn colors. You can reach the trailhead at the end of Wolfpit Road, off Highway 126.

Head to Whippoorwill Farm after your hike to quench your thirst with your favorite craft brew. The farmhouse brewery and tasting room is open to the public to come and enjoy the fall weather. You can relax outside in the fresh air, enjoy delicious food from Singlewyde food trailer, and relax at their picnic tables!

Whippoorwill was previously a working dairy farm, and many of the buildings remain on the property. The tasting room overlooks the pastures, state park land, and Shortoff Mountain. The atmosphere at the farm is outstanding!
