Meet the Agent: Kristy Hardy

We’re proud of the team of agents we’ve assembled here at Nest Realty. We think they’re pretty awesome, and we think you will too. During our “Meet the Agent” series, we sit down with our agents to learn more about them, what makes them tick, and why they’re passionate about the real estate industry. In this installment, we chat with Kristy Hardy, a Broker at Nest Realty Wilmington.

Nest Realty: Tell us a bit about yourself! Where are you from? What brought you to Wilmington?
Kristy Hardy: I grew up in Greensboro, NC and attended Elon University. My children and I spent our vacations at Wrightsville Beach with my parents. Once my children were grown, I wanted to provide them and their families the same opportunity. Really, I thought if I lived near the beach they would definitely come and visit.

NR: How did you get into real estate?
KH: My house in Greensboro was on the market with one firm, and I had a buyer agent in Wilmington from a different firm. The skill level, communication, agent style, and the overall experience were so different it made me curious about being an agent. I took an online survey to determine whether it was a good fit. The results came out in my favor. I decided new location, new house, why not new career?

NR: What was your previous career? How has that prepared you for real estate?
KH: Previously, I was an ESL Teacher at the high school level. As a teacher, I had to understand and meet the needs of multiple students at the same time. This required a great deal of planning, scheduling, and paper work that did not always occur from 7-4. Real estate is much the same; all buyers, sellers, and properties are different. We must meet their needs, educate them on the process, stay on a timeline, and guide them in completing a whole lot of paperwork.

NR: What led you to Nest Realty, as opposed to another brokerage?
KH: I was in search of a smaller firm that was focused on the client relationship and providing a higher level of marketing and service.

NR: What is your favorite part of being an agent?
KH: I love the hours of research. For a seller, it is to create the perfect marketing plan for a successful listing and for buyers, it is looking at property details and photos before ever sending them the listing.

NR: Do you have a specific area of expertise to offer clients?
KH: Relocation is my passion. I have spent a great deal of time reflecting on my own relocation experience. Driving by and previewing properties before my clients come to town is one of my favorite tasks. This insures we don’t waste time during their visit.

NR: What are five adjectives that describe you?
KH: Knowledgeable, Compassionate, Innovative, Reliable, Thorough.

NR: If you had one piece of advice for a first-time home buyer, what would it be?
KH: Get a good agent. A good agent will listen, answer your questions or point you in the right direction, and be willing to tell you things you may not want to hear.

NR: What is your favorite season in Wilmington?
KH: I don’t really have a favorite season. My favorite time of year is that midpoint the last few weeks of spring and rolling into the begin of summer. New things are growing, people start getting together outdoors, and visitors start coming back.
