Meet the Agent: Matt Orr

Agent: Matt Orr

We’re proud of the team of agents we’ve assembled here at Nest Realty. We think they’re pretty awesome, and we think you will too. During our “Meet the Agent” series, we sit down with our agents to learn more about them, what makes them tick, and why they’re passionate about the real estate industry. In this installment, we chat with Matt Orr, a Realtor at Nest Realty in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Nest Realty: Tell us a bit about yourself! Where are you from? What brought you to Wilmington?
Matt Orr: I’m originally from Raleigh, North Carolina. I’ve vacationed at the Wilmington beaches my whole life though, and I graduated from UNCW.

NR: How did you get into real estate?
MO: I grew up renovating an old house with my parents, which originated my interest in real estate. I then graduated with a finance degree with a concentration in real estate.

NR: What was your previous career? How has that prepared you for real estate?
MO: My first career was real estate, so I’m back to doing what I love.

NR: What led you to Nest Realty, as opposed to another brokerage?
MO: I was inspired by the entrepreneurial mindset, the “hustler” mentality of the team, and the differentiation Nest has in their support and attention to clients. Their marketing and promotional support stands out from the rest.

NR: What is your favorite part of being an agent?
MO: I find a lot of joy in educating people about the real estate process. I also enjoy the property “hunt” and matching clients to the property best suited for them.

NR: Do you have a specific area of expertise to offer clients?
MO: I started my career in land development, completing a small community from the ground up. This taught me what it takes to build from a raw piece of land to a home someone can live in, and everything that happens in between.

NR: What makes you different from other agents? What sets you apart?
MO: I have a strong background in renovating and fixing homes, which I believe does differentiate me from other agents in that I know how to identify structural versus cosmetic issues with a property. I also have a strong reference for the cost it might take to make a property perfect for you.

NR: What are four adjectives that describe you?
MO: Patient, understanding, entrepreneurial, and opportunistic.

NR: Who would be your dream client?
MO: I think Jerry Seinfeld would be a blast to tour homes with. I drive an antique truck and have always thought of having my own episode of “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.”

NR: If you had one piece of advice for a first-time home buyer, what would it be?
MO: Be patient, educate yourself, and prepare for some possible bumps in the road, but be very excited—this is one of the most important investments in your life, and it should be a very enjoyable one!

NR: What is your favorite season in Wilmington?
MO: Fall, in particular September through November.
