Meet the Agent: Kerie Lord

During our “Meet the Agent” series, we sit down with our agents to learn more about them, what makes them tick, and why they’re passionate about the real estate industry. In this installment, we chat with Kerie Lord, a Broker at Nest Realty Wilmington.

Nest Realty: Tell us a bit about yourself! Where are you from? What brought you to Wilmington?
Kerie Lord:  I am originally from southern New Jersey. I moved to North Carolina in 2005 and have lived in Raleigh, Charlotte, and Wilmington. I am a bit of a serial mover—I have moved 13 times in 18 years, but I’m happy to call Wilmington my forever home! Can’t live without that beach!

NR: What led you to Nest Realty, as opposed to another brokerage?
KL: The unbelievable quality of their marketing and commitment to provide an exceptional experience for their clients is what drew me to Nest Realty. Instead of focusing on how many houses they have listed or sold year after year, Nest agents concentrate on exceeding expectations for each individual client. Every minute of every day.

NR: What is your favorite part of being an agent?
KL: Everything! Seriously, I love it all. For over 20 years, I had a career that I did not enjoy—honestly, I was miserable. Real estate was something I was always attracted to, but I kept making excuses when it came to getting my license. One day I decided to just do it. It’s an indescribable feeling to get up in the morning now and look forward to every day with my clients.

NR: Do you have a specific area of expertise to offer clients?
KL: My mom was an interior designer in Philadelphia, so I grew up with the real life HGTV! I learned a lot about fabrics, furniture and decorating—so it comes in handy when I have to stage a house or help a client pick out paint colors for her new living room.

NR: What makes you different from other agents? What sets you apart?
KL: People have always told me that I’m a great listener, and that really comes in handy when trying to find a particular home for a buyer, or finding out what makes a seller’s home unique so we can market it accordingly. I really try to understand my client’s needs, sometimes I “see” it even before they do! I guess that’s why most of my clients have become dear friends… long after closing!

NR: Who would be your dream client?
KL: Joanna Gaines, although she might a bit too intimidating! I love a good “Fixer Upper” like everyone—it’s so exciting to walk into a house that needs work, and help a client see beyond the pea green carpet and pink tiled bathrooms of the 1950s…I can just see what the finished product could look like in my mind’s eye, and I love to work with clients who have that kind of imagination, too.

NR: What is your favorite season in Wilmington?
KL: I love Fall in Wilmington. All of the tourists have returned home, the weather is still warm, and the days are still long enough so you can enjoy the beach without all of the craziness. Nothing like walking along Wrightsville Beach at dusk wearing your sweatshirt and shorts…
