During our “Meet the Agent” series, we sit down with our agents to learn more about them, what makes them tick, and why they’re passionate about the real estate industry. In this installment, we chat with Millie Watkins, a Realtor® at Nest Realty Fredericksburg.
Nest Realty: Tell us a bit about yourself! Where are you from? What brought you to Fredericksburg?
Millie Watkins: I was born and raised in Virginia, but from 1998 to 2015 lived in California, Nevada, and Illinois. I returned home to the northern neck and live the country life on our family’s farmette.
NR: How did you get into real estate?
MW: I started my career in new home sales for a builder in Nevada. Since then, I have had general brokerage experience, followed by another opportunity with a builder, and now I have returned to the exciting life of a Realtor.
NR: What was your previous career? How has that prepared you for real estate?
MW: I believe I have gained a lot of experience from working both areas, general brokerage and new home sales. They both have great opportunities as well as challenges. But they share the same end result, which is a happy client.
NR: What led you to Nest Realty, as opposed to another brokerage?
MW: My wonderful experience in Illinois was with another fantastic brokerage, with which Nest has a lot in common… the philosophy, the teamwork between agents, the forward thinking marketing and branding… I didn’t want to be a number… I wanted to be an teammate in a “let’s do this” environment.
NR: What is your favorite part of being an agent?
MW: In this industry, every person is different, every transaction is different, EVERY DAY is different. It’s FUN! And I love meeting and helping people from every walks of life!
NR: What makes you different from other agents? What sets you apart?
MW: I believe every person and transaction is an opportunity to learn. Each client brings something different. Learning and experience is the cornerstone that helps one become a trusted and reliable Realtor. That relationship shouldn’t end at the settlement table!
NR: What are five adjectives that describe you?
MW: Energetic, kind, considerate, funny, and polite.
NR: Who would be your dream client?
MW: I would love to have Lucille Ball as a client. I am a “I Love Lucy” junkie!!
NR: If you had one piece of advice for a first-time home buyer, what would it be?
MW: I have given this advice several times…Don’t Over Buy. Just because you’re qualified for certain amount, doesn’t mean you HAVE to buy at that level. Give yourself some cushion!
NR: What is your favorite season in Fredericksburg?
MW: I can’t give a favorite…because Virginia has four distinct seasons (usually)! It’s the change that I love… each season has awesome qualities!
