Meet the Agent: Shannon McCarthy

We’re proud of the team of agents we’ve assembled here at Nest Realty. We think they’re pretty awesome, and we think you will, too. During our “Meet the Agent” series, we sit down with our agents and brokers to learn more about them, what makes them tick, and why they’re passionate about the real estate industry.

In this installment, we chat with Shannon McCarthy, a Nest Realtor in Asheville, NC.

Nest Realty: Tell us a bit about yourself! What brought you to the area? How long have you lived here
Shannon McCarthy: In 2011 I made a quick decision move to Asheville without knowing much about the area at all. I was ready for a change and had been told I’d really like it here. “I’ll give it a shot” landed me in what turned out to truly be home. I am in love with the people, the vibrant, ever-changing city, and most of all, the mountains.

NR: How did you get into real estate? How long have you been practicing?
SM: After owning a salon and doing hair for several years I wanted to apply my entrepreneurial skills and love of working with people to something challenging and new. Boy, did I get what I wanted! I’ve been an agent since 2020.

NR: What led you to Nest Realty, as opposed to another brokerage?
SM: The firm’s fresh take on real estate with a culture that fosters individuality, creativity, warmth, integrity, quality, and agent success is exactly where I belong.

NR: What’s your favorite part of being an agent?
SM: Being able to forge relationships and share in the excitement of such a major change in someone’s life is incredibly rewarding, and a genuine privilege. Also crawl spaces. They’re like caving, but with more cobwebs!

NR: Do you have a specific area of expertise to offer clients?
SM: I have a proven track record of highly-effective negotiating and getting excellent results for my clients. I also have a strong understanding of the construction, design, and systems of houses and have a keen eye for the little things. I provide my clients with an objective, informative perspective on a home’s potential problems, as well as its assets and features.

NR: What are five adjectives to describe you?
SM: Curious, creative, determined, principled, and grateful.

NR: Who would be your dream client? (This can be funny—a famous person, or celebrity, or a general type of person.)
SM: Tim Gunn. I just really want to hang out with that guy.

NR: If you had one piece of advice for a first-time home buyer, what would it be?
SM: Even though the process can feel overwhelming, it’s going to be okay! It might even be fun! We’ll work together and take it small pieces. No matter what you need, I’ve got your back and will guide you, providing resources, information, and moral support every step of the way..

NR: What’s your favorite season? Why?
SM: Spring. I love the uplifting feeling of knowing we’re at the beginning of months of warmth and sunshine, the emergence of blossoms and bees, and that electric shade of green of all the new leaves. Especially here in the mountains.
