The fifth must-do for this summer in New River Valley is to cheer on the Pulaski Yankees. The Pulaski Yankees minor league baseball team based in Pulaski, Virginia are an advanced Rookie League team in the Appalachian League, and became a farm team of the New York Yankees in 2015. The Yankees host at least three home baseball games a week at Calfee Park–sometimes they face as many as six home games a week!
Local live bluegrass bands usually perform pre-game and post-game music that you can jam out to, and there are often give-away deals for the first 500 fans. There is parking at Calfee Park, but a convenient free fan shuttle runs along Pierce Avenue and brings fans into the ballpark as well.
Calfee Park hosts several promotional nights that have fun themes! This August, there will be a Star Wars night on Thursday, August 3rd and “Pink in the Park” on Sunday, August 13th to raise Breast Cancer awareness and benefit the Susan G. Komen foundation. Plus, College Night will be on Thursday, August 17th–present a college ID for a $1 General Admission ticket! On Saturday, August 19th, the ballpark will host “Back to School Night,” which will feature a supply drive for Pulaski County Public Schools and free admission for students with a paying adult. Come out and celebrate the end of a fun summer and beginning of a new school year in New River Valley!
