New River Valley Summer Bucket List: Zipline at Wilderness Adventure

Welcome to Week 4! In Nest Realty’s Summer Bucket List Series, we’ll highlight five of our favorite summer activities in the New River Valley area. After you tackle our bucket list, let us know which adventure was your favorite! Send a photo or leave a comment about your day in the sun. We hope these inspire you to love where you live even more than you already do!

The fourth must-do for this summer is to zipline at Wilderness Adventure. Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of southwest Virginia, Wilderness Adventure at Eagle Landing is an adventure camp, conference, and retreat center on 500 beautiful acres.

Originally founded in 1990 as a backpacking camp by ex-marine Colonel Gene Nervo and his family, the property once began as only an 1800’s era farmhouse. Since then, the farmhouse has transformed its 500 acres to include a Sky Lodge, Sneaky Cabin, Admin Building, and other facilities such as a cedar sauna, high ropes adventure course, challenge courses, outdoor pavilion, hiking trails, and more. Of course, let’s not forget the 900-foot zip line!

To zipline at Wilderness Adventure, guests can attend an “Adventure Weekend” designed for families, couples, and groups of less than eight people. Wilderness Adventure also sets aside one weekend a month for small groups. This summer, the August dates are the 5th and 6th at 10 am and 1 pm, but reservations are required. Visit this page for more information or call 540-864-6792.

Luckily, the popular zipline ride is only $25 per person and offers spectacular Blue Ridge views! In addition, if you’re looking to make a day of it, note that canoe rental is only $40 per canoe and mountain biking for a half day is $30. The climbing wall is $20 per person!

Also, if you still have some free time the last half of this summer, be sure to check out availability for Adventure Camps! Wilderness Adventure prides itself in leading expedition style programs that are immersive and active. Mountain Bike and Leadership Course are just a couple that are great for kids of all ages!

Enjoy!

I’ve never been zip lining before and I think it would be great fun. Before I decide to go, I would look for some places around me and compare them. That way, I can see what ones would work best for me.
