Style File: Foode & The Brow House

DESIGN INSPIRATION FOR YOUR OWN STYLE FILE!

In this installment of our “Style File” series, we offer you two dapper establishments that may provide design inspiration for your home. Soak in the beauty of each of space, find an element you love, and replicate that in your own home! This week we visit a beautiful eatery and a chic beauty boutique.

FOODE

We’ve been a fan of Foode since their early days in 2011, when they occupied a petite space on Caroline Street in downtown Fredericksburg, VA. Founders Joy Crump and Beth Black developed an incredible menu and a loyal following. Growing out of their existing space, they set their eyes on the former National Bank Building, a historic space where Abraham Lincoln once visited, and slave John Washington lived before escaping and penning his memoir.

Undergoing a massive historic renovation, what now exists is a stunning 100-seat restaurant, including seating inside the bank vault. The beautiful space mixes traditional hardwood floors and intricate mouldings with contemporary textures and a sleek bar.

THE BROW HOUSE

We’re smitten with the bright and airy Brow House in Charlottesville, VA. Residing in the historic Coca Cola building, the eyebrow, waxing, and skincare boutique is sparse yet impactful.

The simple palette of pink, gray, and white feels soft and feminine without being cutesy. Designed by owner Brooke Fossett, the less-is-more approach gives every object a level of importance. The clean lines of the blush-colored sofa mix perfectly with the hairpin legged coffee table and low-slung accent chairs.

Funky artwork is found throughout. Our favorite moment of whimsy occurs in the powder room where bright eyed wallpaper adorns the walls.

A small half-bath in your home is the perfect space to experiment with a fun wallpaper or bold colors!
