Meet the Agent: Molly Tilyou

Agent: Molly Tilyou

We’re proud of the team of agents we’ve assembled here at Nest Realty. We think they’re pretty awesome, and we think you will too. During our “Meet the Agent” series, we sit down with our agents to learn more about them, what makes them tick, and why they’re passionate about the real estate industry. In this installment, we chat with Molly Tilyou, a Broker at Nest Realty Wilmington.

Nest Realty: Tell us a bit about yourself! Where are you from? What brought you to Wilmington?
Molly Tilyou: Originally from Delaware, I spent my summers at Rehoboth Beach and fell in love with the ocean. My parents moved to Winston Salem when I was 10 and I went to college at NC State, where I visited Wilmington a lot on the weekends. My post-graduate job in Raleigh took me to Toronto where I spent three months in the winter of 2013. In Toronto I craved the warmth of the sunshine and the salt of the ocean. Once my assignment in Toronto was over, I found a job in Wilmington—quit my current job, left my best friend and roommate behind, and moved here within two weeks.

NR: How did you get into real estate?
MT: A few years ago my now-husband got tired of watching me spend night after night on Zillow looking at homes and following marketing trends. After a little push from him, I fulfilled a life-long passion of mine by getting my real estate license. Now our dinner conversations include even more real estate, as he’s a local builder and general contractor….of course we pair it with a nice glass of wine and kids mac-n-cheese. 🙂

NR: What was your previous career? How has that prepared you for real estate?
MT: As a cheerleader, I cheered my way through NC State which taught me how to fight til the end, never give up, and all with a smile on my face. #GOPACK (To me that was a full time job!) I started my post-graduate career as a technical recruiter in Raleigh. In 2013, I moved to my dream town of Wilmington, NC to pursue a more face-to-face marketing career in the health care industry. I learned the technical and important general aspects of sales through both of these positions.

NR: What led you to Nest Realty, as opposed to another brokerage?
MT: I am beyond blessed to see my long time dream come true with one of the best firms in southeastern NC. Nest is different from all the other firms in that they give us the creativity and tools to market our properties differently from everyone else. I love the small boutique feel, in which they give me the tools to make every client know how important they are to me. Not to mention, I’ve felt part of the family since day one, we really have the most welcoming and hardworking agents in the industry.

NR: What is your favorite part of being an agent?
MT: I have a passion for being around people I love, and helping people to make their dreams come true. I am a hard worker, excellent listener (so my dad tells me), and a mean negotiator. I work hard for my clients, and that is what I am most proud of.

NR: Do you have a specific area of expertise to offer clients?
MT: Both my previous careers have taught me to be a mean negotiator. This is where I think I can offer a lot of benefit to my clients. I am confident in my skills to get my clients the best deals. My husband is also a general contractor, so I typically pimp him out to look at my inspection reports for my clients as well 😉

NR: What makes you different from other agents? What sets you apart?
MT: I think I make the experience of house buying and selling enjoyable. I know its a stressful and important decision for my clients, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be exciting and fun!

NR: What are four adjectives that describe you?
MT: Spunky, driven, #momboss, and personable.

NR: Who would be your dream client?
MT: Justin Timberlake, so then I can meet him and tell him I love him.

NR: If you had one piece of advice for a first-time home buyer, what would it be?
MT: Don’t stress, we’ve got this! Everyone has been a first-time home buyer once so you’re not alone and thats what I’m here for—to take the stress out of this process!

NR: What is your favorite season in Wilmington?
MT: FALL!!! I love that the city traffic dies down, but the weather is still beautiful to enjoy all that Wilmington has to offer.

Spread the love
