Nest Realty: What was the first property you ever sold for a client?
Amy Webb: The first property I ever sold for a client was a fantastic, custom built, low-country style home off of a dirt road in Earlysville. The house was set on 30 gorgeous high acres overlooking the Buck River, with a pole barn, pool, and miles of trails.
N.R.: That sounds amazing! What do you love most about being a Realtor besides the fabulous properties?
A.W.: From a selfish perspective, I like the variety: Each day is different from the next. One day I am showing property and very engaged with other people; the next day I am head down working on stats or a marketing plan. As a realtor, like any other entrepreneur, I am chief, cook and bottle washer. That keeps it interesting. What I love most overall about the job, however, is paying that first housewarming visit and seeing my clients settled into their new home!
N.R.: It doesn’t get any better than happy clients! Why did you join the Nest team?
A.W.: I joined the Nest Team very early on: I was the 5th body in the door. (Although we didn’t actually have a door or an office then!) Jonathan, Keith and Jim made a great case for their vision of a new type of brokerage firm: client focused, transparent and technology oriented. I loved their ideas, their energy and their value system, and I felt very much attuned to their view of the future of real estate services and their perspective on the dual agency issue.
N.R.: Wow! Employee number 5! Since you first walked in the “door” at Nest, how has technology changed the way you do business?
A.W.: Technology changes the way I do business weekly! I am a proud “old lady” geek and am constantly refining my processes to facilitate better communications and efficiency.
N.R: “Old lady geek,” I am totally stealing that phrase. 🙂 What trend should we be on the lookout for in the Central Virginia market or in the real estate industry in general?
A.W.: I think 2013 will be the year we will see the return of the investor to the rental market property.
N.R.: What’s your favorite time of the year in C’ville? Why?
A.W.: Hands down: Spring. I grew up in the Northeast and always loved Autumn, but the Spring in Charlottesville is simply sublime and has won my favor. The colors are stunning and the air so fresh. I like the early Spring when the mornings still have a cool edge.
N.R.: I do love those cool Spring mornings. What’s the one thing you would tell a new homebuyer to keep in mind throughout the process?
A.W.: I tell them to keep their eyes on the prize: Selling or buying that home. It is important to mind the details. That is a big part of my job, not to let the negotiations, the decision making, the little twists and turns in the process create too much frustration…helping my clients stay focused on the end game.
N.R.: Last question for you, what’s the most important room in a house? Why?
A.W.: The kitchen – because that’s where family life really happens! While we spend a lot of time in bedrooms, it is mostly spent sleeping. The kitchen is where I start my day out with my girls, where we re-convene after school to catch up, do homework, problem solve, and negotiate, and it’s where we share our meals together: Sometimes on the run and sometimes relaxed, but never with the television on!
