In this installment, we chat with Matthew Pettway, a Nest Realtor in Shenandoah Valley, VA.
Nest Realty: What brought you to the area? How long have you lived here
Matthew Pettway: I was born and raised in the Shenandoah Valley. My wife and I built our dream farmhouse on her family’s farm, Star B Stables 4 years ago. We enjoy our time spent with our 3 children outdoors surrounded by the horses, cow, and our 6 dogs!
NR: How did you get into real estate? How long have you been practicing?(If you are new to real estate, skip ahead to the next question.)
MP: Four years ago, me and my wife built our dream farmhouse. During our build, I fell in love with every part of it; the planning, the design, but most of all watching our idea/dream come to fruition. Fast forward two years later, I suffered a major medical scare that changed my perspective on so many things, one being my career. I wanted a career that I was truly passionate about and a career that would allow me the ability to help others. I also had realized the value of a healthy work/life balance. Real Estate was the answer. I have now been in Real Estate for about 2.5 years and couldn’t imagine doing or being anything else.
NR: What was your previous career? How has that prepared you for real estate?
MP: Prior to Real Estate, I was in the service/sales industry. I did this for about 15 years. This profession allowed me the opportunity to meet many new faces on a sometimes-weekly basis. For years, I built and maintained relationships with people from all walks of life. I am fortunate now to continue doing this in field that I’m so passionate about.
NR: What led you to Nest Realty, as opposed to another brokerage?
MP: Their mission and values aligned with mine. They are modern, yet hold strong to core family values.
NR: What’s your favorite part of being an agent?
MP: There’s nothing quite like seeing the joy on a family’s face on closing day.
NR: Do you have a specific area of expertise to offer clients?
MP: Communication 100%…and knowledge of our local market & community.

NR: If you had one piece of advice for a first-time home buyer, what would it be?
MP: Work with a Real Estate agent that is knowledgeable and that you are comfortable with
NR: What’s your favorite season?
MP: Fall. The weather, scenery, and hunting season.
